Herbal Medicine
Chinese herbal medicine is an effective compliment to acupuncture, or a stand-alone therapy, to address a wide range of conditions. We work almost exclusively with Crane Herb Company, located in Mashpee, MA. Crane provides us with professional-grade formulas from long-established companies that have solid reputations for safety, efficacy and ethical sourcing.
How it Helps
Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine treats the underlying cause of illness and disease in the body, by treating the symptoms. Unlike over-the-counter remedies, TCM practitioners prescribe specific formulas for each patient based on what the patient needs to regain health and harmony in the body. In this way, Chinese Herbal Medicine supports the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Formulations that have been used for thousands of years have synergistic effects on body/organ functions. Modern research continues to prove the efficacy of these formulas.
Special consideration is given to any Western medications/supplements a patient may be taking, to prevent interactions.
During your appointment, we will discuss which of the 4 forms your formula will come in: patent herbs (in capsule or tablet form); tinctures; raw herbs (brewed into a “tea”); or powdered herbs (to be mixed with water or other beverages). All of our herbs come from one of two Massachusetts-based companies, to ensure safety, purity and potency: Crane Herb Companies in Mashpee or Lhasa Om in Weymouth.
Herbal medicine may be used in conjunction with acupuncture and/or any of the modalities we offer. Herbal appointments can be done by telemedicine or in person. A significant amount of post-appointment time goes into creating prescriptions, and pricing for these appointments is a reflection of that. Please note that the cost of your appointment does not include the cost of your herbal prescription. Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of these appointments or formulas.
Effective in treating: chronic conditions such as asthma, migraines, allergies; blood sugar issues; kidney disease; side effects from cancer treatments; addiction and substance cessation; menstrual cycle discomfort; infertility; digestive issues and more.
